Today at SFU a protest took place against the six million dollar cuts to core funding that will result in the loss of 80 staff positions at our university. While I won’t bore you with the details, this funding cuts are going to mean fewer professors and TA’s, larger classes with less individual attention per student, and the elimination of several scholarships and bursaries that will drastically effect those who are struggling to afford already high tuition costs. It’s not exactly the kind of issue students should be apathetic about.

I was happy to see a decent turnout. Here are a few pictures so you get an idea.

if you’d like more information on how you can help, or the issues public post secondary education is facing due to these funding cuts click here

The online world is a scary one. The Internet has the power to disseminate my messages, make me famous, give people the opportunity to obsess over the words I write, or convince them to hate me. However, due to the nature of communications and natural reluctance of potential employers to give any of us students the time of day, an online portfolio seemed necessary, possibly even crucial to my survival. From these concerns Written Word was born, and I embrace the online world: friendly strangers, stalkers, potential employers and all.
