Name: Courtney Chu
Age: 22
Education: Currently finishing my last semester at Simon Fraser University. Communication honors major.
My honors thesis is based on mash-up music as an art and issues with copyright.
Secondary degree completed at Kitsilano. I graduated with honors and received a scholarship in creative writing.
Writing Experience: I have been working for The Peak at Simon Fraser as a contributor since 2008. I cover arts, generally dance. I have written articles, reviews and conducted interviews in a variety of fields, high profile cases including interviewing celebrity journalist Nardwuar, Andrew W.K. of party infamy, and Brett Gaylor director of RiP: A remix manifesto.
I recently finished a publishing practicum through the CCSP Press Practicum program at SFU. I was working on marketing and publicity for JRIPE, a new online medical journal.
From Fall 2009 until March 2010 I worked as a research assistant for Daniel Ahadi a PhD candidate, teacher and research associate at SFU. I assisted in research on behalf of a local NGO which dealt with multicultural approaches to counseling.
I currently intern for Tradewind Books, a children’s book publishing company. Last semester I also was the TA for the editor, who taught a course on children’s books at UBC.
Interests: Aside from writing and reading and I am a dancer with a focus on lyrical jazz, ballet and hip-hop.
